Response to Oprah
I was actually kind of excited when I heard the Oprah was going to air an episode today on puppy mills. The show did a good job depicting these shelters but as it went to commercial break I knew I shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up. Oprah gave the American Kennel Club air time to send a message stating that people should not get their animals from puppy mills but rather from responsible breeders. The Humane Society was present as well stating the same and Oprah also agreed. She even stated that breeders take care of their animals because they are proud of their “work”, these are living beings we are talking about not products. She sent mixed messages by condoning breeders but stating that she sent a $10,000 check to a no kill shelter. I don’t think many of her viewers will being able to comprehend the truth about the epidemic that is going on in our country. We are talking about a species so over populated that over 4 million are killed every year. There is no such thing as a responsible breeder. There was so much hypocrisy in this episode it is sickening, she spoke about spay and neuter but she never acknowledges the fact that all breeding is despicable. It does not matter how well those animals are treated, for everyone born another is killed in a shelter. That is not considering the amount that actually end up in shelters them selves.
I think the message this show conveyed was a step in the right direction but as always it did not consist of the whole truth. Do the animals a favor spay and neuter your companions, stay away from breeders, adopt from shelters, and as always go vegan.

good for you !!!!
