One Less PETA Fan
Other than being the largest animal rights non profit, PETA is also the most controversial. The general public immediate tag vegans as extremist who are involved with PETA and the ALF, this can be frustrating because not all of us support PETA at all. There are a large amount of reasons why I personally choose not to support PETA but for now I just wanted to post a quick blurb about a recent occurrence.
PETA is praising Rob and Big from MTV for doing a spay and neuter ad. Am I the only one whose seen the commercials with these idiots torturing turtles and riding around with a horse in the back seat of their car? The list just goes on and on. How can a company claiming to be so caring about animals vote Carrie Underwood as the sexiest vegetarian for 2007 when she performs at the rodeo. Burger King’s veggie burger is no longer vegan yet they received an award for being the most progressive fast food industry.
PETA is a 40 million dollar organization, a large portion of that money is wasted in ridiculous advertising campaigns. PETA actually euthanasias 97% of animals they take in, if this money was distributed more appropriately then more animals could be helped. Having celebrities pose nude in vegetarian ads does not help the movement, because in the end the shock factor does not promote any real cause it just destroys the reputation of the animal rights movement.
These ads and extreme protest might attract attention but in the end the world is just laughing at PETA.
