Dolphin Species Goes Extinct

The human race has most definitely made the largest impact on the earth than any other animal. Other than global warming we have also caused several species to seize to exist. We all know of the mammoth but there are very few marine mammals that have become extinct. Yet recently LiveScience.com reported that the Yangtze River dolphin is the first dolphin led to extinction by humans. It really is depressing that the fishing industry is so large that not only are animals being killed for food but they are also destroying entire species in the process.

One Response to “Dolphin Species Goes Extinct”

  1. In response to Javier’s Dolphin article I would like to post some tips on how to help protect the Dolphin species, as well as all of our other water living friends.

    1) Cut your soda rings before you throw them out dolphins and other water animals get their necks, noses stuck in these and suffocate. ( Better yet don’t throw out your soda rings, recycle them so they wont end up in the ocean in the first place. )
    2) Take care of your boat. If you own a boat, make sure that you don’t place you gas can in direct sun light ( if you do the oil evaporates into the air). Also replace your engine with and new or cleaner one each year.
    3) Cut down your water usage. Stop taking baths, only take showers and try to cut down on your shower time. The less water you use the less pollution the goes in to our water systems.
    4) Cut down your car usage. Walk, ride you bike, or car pool. When you use you cars the smoke emitted form your engine turns into acid rain, killing fish and dolphins.

These are simple steps that everyone can follow to help make our oceans and waters cleaner. For more tips visit http://library.thinkquest.org/CR0215471/ocean_pollution.htm
