Emergency Animal Kit

I often worry what I would do if I encountered a stray or injured animal. As part of my new found activism I decided to take a suggestion from a fellow vegan and prepare an emergency kit for my car. I chose to include the following in my kit, but feel free to add any items you deem necessary.

  • A small kennel suitable for most cats and small animals
  • A medium sized leash that can handle small to medium sized dogs
  • 2 pull-tab cans of pet food (one for dogs and one for cats)
  • A pair of work gloves in case an animal is injured and violent
  • A small E-Collar to prevent injured animals from biting or licking wounds
  • A medium sized towel
  • An index card with numbers to local animal hospitals and shelters
  • 1 small Tupperware container to store the supplies in

I store all of this in the trunk of my car, it was rather inexpensive considering I found the kennel, the gloves, and the E-Collar (obtained after I got my cat fixed) around the house. The other items added up to a cost of around $6. I am now better equipped to help an animal in need which really puts my heart at ease.

  1. Outstanding! I need to add food and gloves to my own kit. The leash has come in handy, but I may add a sealed sample pack of treats to help entice any runaways close enough in order to get the leash around their head.

  2. The Cone is called an E-Collar
